WIR-B2 | The recycling fibre as a versatile raw material

Objective

The objective is to derive long-term requirements for recycled fibres from the perspective of products in which recycled fibres are to be used. To this end, concrete requirements for the fibres and the quantitative demand for fibres of different qualities are to be determined at this point together with users. The quality of fibrous waste in the region “Elbtal Sachsen” should also be recorded and the extent to which recycled fibres can be integrated into the existing processes of the regional business landscape. Instructions for action to achieve the required qualities of the fibres, but also the derivation of key technologies to be occupied will be drawn up.

There is a direct link to the project-related strategy, since the long-term perspectives already identified are put into concrete terms and the key technologies to be occupied are worked out. Not only the properties of the materials and the approaches for recycling-friendly product design, but above all energy, material and climate balances as well as investment and settlement strategies play a decisive role here. At this point, valuable approaches for a holistic view of the regional production and waste management sector emerge. The active involvement of numerous partners strengthens cooperation and innovative capacity, and lays the foundation for the long-term alliance strategy for a resilient and environmentally oriented corporate culture in the region “Elbtal Sachsen”.

In the short term, an alliance-related material, energy and climate consideration can be carried out to check the resilience of the corporate culture in the region “Elbtal Sachsen” against future political decisions on climate protection in order to identify any risks and prevent them at an early stage with solution approaches.

Objective 1 – Analysis, evaluation and structuring of the concrete requirements on recycled fibres and the quantitative demand for different qualities with regard to concrete applications (mat- and bar-shaped reinforcements).

Objective 2 – Analysis, evaluation and structuring of the corresponding qualities and quantities of waste containing fibres in the region “Elbtal Sachsen”.
