WIR-V1.6 | Development of an AI radar for the identification, categorisation and networking of new companies in the material cycle for fibre composites (FiberConnect)

Objective

The joint project WIR-V1.6 will develop a digital platform from which users will have clear access to all relevant players in the circular economy of their carbon fibres. The data will be updated automatically using artificial intelligence while guaranteeing high data quality, thus offering a solution that requires hardly any manual maintenance. WIR-V1.6 thus makes an essential contribution to ensuring that players are continuously informed about connection points in the material cycle and that the potential synergies between the relevant players in the alliance are highlighted.

WIR‑V1.6 has the overall objective of providing a digital tool that shows all relevant players in the material cycle of fibre composites – not only those already organised in the C³‑Association of the alliance within the WIRreFa project – at a glance. What is special here is that new relevant companies are also automatically recognised and included in the existing database by means of artificial intelligence. Likewise, companies that go out of business are recognised and can thus be quickly removed. These updates take place while ensuring high data quality with minimal manual effort. Furthermore, each registered company is to be automatically assigned to a category of players in the fibre circular economy (producers of fibres and yarns, producers of semi-finished products, producers of fibre composites, users, collectors and sorters, processors of fibres). This should enable suitable companies to be found quickly.

The collected data on all players in the fibre circular economy are to be incorporated into the prototype of a web application, where the competences available in the region are to be clearly displayed. For the C³‑Association in particular, this is an important tool to initiate the active networking of players to form a regional (sub-)cycle. The aim of this tool is also to enable companies that are already involved in fibre recycling to find new customers or suppliers with just a few clicks. This way, the platform can also contribution to the organic creation of (partial) cycles. Companies that are not yet involved in carbon concrete recycling can use the platform to obtain low-threshold information about their potential role in the fibre cycle and possible partner companies.

For both the C³‑Association and its members, the application helps to make the choice of partners for research cooperation or business collaboration more objective by highlighting new or as yet unknown players in addition to the potential cooperation partners already known.
